The Art of Intuitive Eating
Our lives,
so seemingly small,
ripple out
to the whole universe
as tiny whispers
like the sounds
of butterfly wings,
and the clear voice
of the living truth.
Nudges of the Heart - Ginger Date Sauce
I had a nudge to create this new recipe to make a sweet treat to use in place of honey or agave. It's a snap to make, and keeps in the fridge, covered, for up to a week.

Ginger Date Sauce Date sauce has it's own unique flavor that works nicely with tea, or to lightly sweeten salad dressings, spread on breads with tahini, or drizzle over frozen banana ice cream. In this recipe we've added ginger and raisins to make a spicy dipping sauce for apples.

Date Sauce (makes 1/2 cup):
6 medium Medjool dates, pitted
1/2 cup pure water
Put dates and water into blender and puree until smooth as silk.
Use as is, or add in:
1-2 teaspoons ginger root, grated
2 tablespoons raisins
Store in glass jar with a lid.

To recreate the dish in the photograph, make ginger date sauce and slice apples with fresh lemon juice squeezed on top.
Serve with our yummy buckwheat bread, cut into pieces.

A Little Story: Nudges of the Heart

A series of nudges culminated with our making a trip to Orcas Island yesterday to visit our friends, Denise Thomasin, and Morgan Leaf Meadows. We spent a glorious day in the sun, feasting on raw foods at Denise's home, taking in the sweeping views of the San Juan Islands.

The earth rose up to nurture us, trees enfolded us in dappled green light, and the gentleness of our time spent together nested into our hearts.

Denise was generous to share with us this lovely photo, which to me, evokes unspoken feelings of the lambent glow of life, the sweet and miraculous beauty of this earth, the boundless gifts of one day, and of the eternal promise of another tomorrow, soon to come, filled with goodness.

On this day of our independence, we enjoyed eating the ginger date sauce with apples and breads outside on our back deck, contemplating our freedoms and quality of life that we want to help protect by the choices we make.

We are truly blessed to know heart people like Denise and Morgan, dear souls who are changing the face of the planet just by their beingness, just by their love.
